Clare County Prosecutors Office - Deputy Detective


Opportunity for an experienced, self-motivated, MCOLES certified law enforcement officer to work on a 2-year multi-faceted grant funded program focused on combating violent crime, the opioid crisis, and other drug related matters in Clare County, Michigan.

The program includes the establishment of a task force focused on drug related matters with an emphasis on the opioid epidemic.  Professionals assigned to this task force will be a dedicated law enforcement officer, a substance abuse counselor, and a research analyst.  All would be under the direct supervision of the Assistant Prosecutor assigned to run the grant program and the Clare County Prosecutor’s Office.  Secondary supervision via the chain of command at the Clare County Sheriff’s Department for the MCOLES certified candidate.

Compensation:  $40,000 to $50,000 per year depending on experience/certifications

No benefits/no healthcare – this is a contract position

Two weeks built in vacation per year

Generally an 8am to 4pm, Monday through Friday position, but some flex in that schedule may be required

Plain Clothes Assignment

Some travel for training and peer review on the grant program is required

Preferred Qualifications:  

MCOLES certification

Degree in criminal justice or related area

2 years’ experience

Prior experience with drug team

Evidence/Property Room Management experience

•             Private Investigators with prior law enforcement experience will be considered for this position.  Duties would be adjusted accordingly for this candidate.

Other Qualifications:     

Must be self-motivated and work well with others

 Must be able to prepare and execute search warrants

 Must be able to write reports and utilize a report writing program

Must have good communication skills

Must be able to prioritize tasks

Duties:  The MCOLES certified officer will perform all relevant law enforcement duties as it relates to controlled substance investigations.  The officer will not only assist and/or perform follow up investigation on cases generated by other agencies that cover Clare County, but will also initiate his/her own investigations.  All other duties will be assigned by the Attorney managing the grant and must be grant related.

Depending on the success of the program, there are possible follow on grant and other funding opportunities to extend the position beyond the 2-years.
