Clare County Prosecutors Office - Substance Abuse Councelor


Opportunity for an experienced, self-motivated, Substance Abuse Counselor to work on a 2-year multi-faceted grant funded program focused on combating violent crime, the opioid crisis, and other drug related matters in Clare County, Michigan.

The program includes the establishment of a task force focused on drug related matters with an emphasis on the opioid epidemic.  Professionals assigned to this task force will be a dedicated law enforcement officer, a substance abuse counselor, and a research analyst.  All would be under the direct supervision of the Assistant Prosecutor assigned to run the grant program and the Clare County Prosecutor’s Office.  

The substance abuse counselor would provide assessment and treatment services for individuals throughout all phases of the criminal justice process. The applicant would also assist the Assistant Prosecutor assigned to the grant in establishing and monitoring a diversion program to divert first time drug offenders out of the court system and into services to address their substance use disorder. Other duties that are grant related as assigned by the Assistant Prosecutor.

Compensation:  $40,000 to $50,000 per year depending on experience/education

   No benefits/no healthcare – this is a contract position

   Two weeks built in vacation per year

   Some travel for training and peer review on the grant program is required

Qualifications:   Master’s degree in social work with LMSW licensure; will consider LLMSW,

LPC, or a Doctorate in Psychology with an LP.  Sufficient experience to perform the position at a satisfactory level required.  Training in Cognitive Behavior Treatment, Motivational Interviewing and Trauma Informed Care preferred.  CAADC certification preferred.  Valid driver’s license while operating vehicle on agency business.  Must carry own liability insurance.

Depending on the success of the program, there are possible follow on grant and other funding opportunities to extend the position beyond the 2-years.
