Assistant Prosecuting Attorney- Wayne County


Position(s): Assistant Prosecuting Attorney (mid-level)

Duties: This is a full-time position in the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. Generally, mid-level APAs prosecute more complex cases under the direction of a supervising APA.  APAs will review and authorize warrants, assure there is an appropriate factual basis for guilty pleas, and conduct preliminary examinations, jury and non-jury trials.  They are responsible for filing and responding to motions and conducting evidentiary hearings. 

APAs hired under this posting may be assigned to a vertical prosecution division that handles homicide and non-fatal shootings cases. This assignment could also include working off-site in collaboration with police detectives on homicide and non-fatal shootings cases with a focus on pre-warrant legal analysis and case review. 

Requirements: Graduate of an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in Michigan.  Candidates should demonstrate competence in criminal law, evidence, research, and writing.  Prior criminal trial experience is required with a minimum of (3) years prosecutorial experience.
