Responsibilities and Qualifications

Conduct criminal investigations arising from the testing of previously untested sexual assault kits as assigned. Locate victims and suspects. Interview potential witnesses, including victims, and interrogate suspects. Assist in drafting search warrants and direct or participate in the execution of search warrants. Collect evidence, maintaining proper chain of custody. Work with other law enforcement agencies in joint operations. Arrest and process suspects charged with crimes arising from the testing of previously untested sexual assault kits.  Assist attorneys in their courtroom presentations. Serve subpoenas. Appear at court proceedings, maintain evidence and coordinate witnesses. Provide truthful testimony at court proceedings.  Provide data about investigations and prosecutions. Track progress of investigations. 

Must have high school diploma and five years of experience with a law enforcement agency as a MCOLES certified police officer conducting investigations in a criminal investigation unit or detective bureau.  Must have and maintain MCOLES certification and possess a valid Michigan driver's license.
