MDOC FUNDED PROJECT CONSULTANT JOB DESCRIPTION
The MDOC Funded Project Consultant Attorney is responsible for performing all duties required by the Wayne County Prosecutor and Judges of the Court to assure that all misdemeanor and felony cases are presented in a timely manner.
The MDOC Funded Project Consultant will prosecute misdemeanor and non-capital felony cases under the direction of a supervisor and is responsible for assuring that guilty pleas are conducted pursuant to the court rules; holding pretrial hearings; handling responses and arguments to Motions and other miscellaneous matters. They may also conduct waiver trials and be required to research and/or write responses to motions or other legal issues.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
They are responsible for gathering all files scheduled on their dockets; appearing in court or a timely basis; communicating with victims; documenting accurately and reflecting plea agreements; and calculating/correcting sentencing guidelines. They should evaluate and discuss cases with their supervisor; and make reasonable recommendations for disposition options in a case.
Must be a member in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
MDOC Funded Project Consultant Attorneys should have knowledge of criminal law, evidence, and be competent in research and writing.
This is a part-time position with a maximum of 29 hours per week, 5 days per week (Monday through Friday), at $15.00 per hour. The employee will be working at the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office at 1441 St. Antoine, Detroit, Michigan 48226.
