Position Title: Assistant Prosecuting Attorney
General Summary: The case load will include both criminal and civil cases. The APA will represent the Department of Health and Human Services in Child Abuse and Neglect cases including a substantial number of cases involving Tribal Children, so familiarity with the Indian Child Welfare Act and the Michigan Indian Family Preservation Act is beneficial. Criminal cases will include juvenile petitions as well as adult misdemeanor and felony files. The APA will be responsible for reviewing police reports to make charging decisions, resolving the cases by plea or trial, and writing and arguing any necessary motions or responses. Strong oral advocacy skills are required as the APA will be expected to be able to conduct various hearings, preliminary exams, bench trials, and jury trials.
Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited Law School.
Member in good standing with the State Bar.
A valid Michigan driver’s license is required.
Starting Salary: $ 53,990 plus benefits
