Child Support Specialist- Clare County

Hours:  37.5 hours per week 

Pay Rate: $14.87 per hour or $29,112.37 per year with a paralegal certification

$13.85 per hour or $27,111.38 per year without a paralegal certification

Deadline:  September 11, 2020

Expected Start Date: October 1, 2020

Summary of Duties:  In charge of opening cases for child support and/or paternity on behalf of the State of Michigan.  Interview and obtain information from the parents.  Must be able to utilize available databases and online resources to locate a party to the action.  Prepare the legal documentation associated with the action and ensure that all parties are served. Maintain the confidentiality of the information received.  Must be trained in the utilization of buccal swabs to obtain DNA.  This summary is illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include all functions or peripheral duties that might be required.  The Prosecuting Attorney retains the right to modify or change the duties or essential functions of the job at any time. 

Preferred Qualifications:   Paralegal certification and/or experience working in a law office

Qualifications:  Ability to keep confidentiality

Requires computer literacy, including the ability to work with spreadsheets, databases, Internet browsers, and word processing software

Requires basic skills and abilities to develop plans for organizing multiple tasks, setting and meeting deadlines

Requires solid skills and abilities that involve written and verbal communication techniques for correspondence and providing customer service

Requires solid interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; the ability to effectively communicate and interact with individuals of varying social, cultural, economic, professional, and educational backgrounds, including the ability to effectively deal with callers or visitors who may be angry, argumentative, or disagreeable

Must be alert, precise, self-motivated, able to problem-solve

Requires a desire to work hard, ability to work within a stressful environment, and to be a team player

Ability to travel for trainings and conferences
