Project Consultant - Wayne County

JOB TITLE:  Project Consultant - Attorney

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under direct supervision the Project Consultant - Attorney will review and authorize requests for warrants; determine the appropriate charge and prosecute misdemeanor, low severity felony and juvenile cases. This position requires frequent contact with various police agencies, victims of crime and members of the public.  Qualified candidates will be competent in criminal law, evidence, research, and writing.

QUALIFICATIONS:   Juris Doctorate Degree; must be a member in good standing of the State Bar of Michigan.

TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:  Interview victims of crime and law enforcement officials requesting warrants; determine whether to charge and authorize warrants, with the approval of their direct supervisor.

Analyze police reports, case investigations, laboratory reports, witness statements and identification records. 

Handle assignments in all courts which include: District, Circuit and Juvenile.  Prepare for trials and court proceedings.  Draft briefs and legal memoranda. Conduct low severity felony, and misdemeanor trials, preliminary examinations, pretrials and evidentiary hearings.

Perform other related duties as assigned.
