Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Summary:
Provide all residents within Kalamazoo County their rights pursuant to the Paternity Act and Michigan Family Support Act. Provide office policy and procedural expertise for adherence to legal and procedural requirements, ensuring expedient and qualitative case processing.

Responsibilities:
• Coordinate and control paternity tests in a timely manner to facilitate the resolution of disputed cases.
• Acts as primary reception person for the Family Support Division to assist the needs of citizens, attorneys, and police agencies.
• Conducts and executes service of civil process on defendants to allow the case to proceed to final resolution.
• Coordinates the preparation and execution of support orders to ensure their production and submission to the proper agencies.
• Coordinates, controls, and reviews the execution of legal pleadings by child support clients to ensure accuracy.
• Operates computer equipment to input, access, and retrieve necessary legal documents and correspondence.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma.

Experience: 2-3 years experience in a law office and/or experience working in the criminal justice system. Working knowledge of the criminal justice system. Clerical skills & computer data entry and retrieval. Working under stress, at a fast pace, and with constant interruptions. Strong ability to multi-task and work independently. Maintain excellent rapport with the public as well as police & court personnel. Ability to be patient, understanding, and empathetic when assisting traumatized, frustrated, and/or angry persons. Experience with MiCSES Child Support Database preferred. Working knowledge of the Child Support Process is preferred. Familiarity with Civil Court Process preferred.
