The Sexual Assault Services of Calhoun County has awarded PAAM Violence Against Women Training Attorney Deidre Ford, the 2015 LaVern Brann Memorial Award. The award is in memory of Detective Brann, a Battle Creek police officer who was killed in the line of duty ten years ago. It is given for outstanding service in the criminal justice field and is particularly meaningful for Dede as she was a colleague of Detective Brann, and knew of his outstanding work during her years at the Calhoun County Prosecutor's Office. In notifying Dede of this award, Sexual Assault Services Manager Joyce Siegel stated: "your current work as a sexual assault trainer at the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan has reached so many who need to know how to help victims of sexual violence. We have personally witnessed your empathetic, intelligent, and passionate work with survivors who have endured horrific abuse. Your work with them has made a difference, and your work training others now will help so many more."
