Prosecuting Attorney – Luce County

General Summary: The County of Luce in the Upper Peninsula is seeking a qualified candidate to be appointed as the Prosecuting Attorney. The Luce County Prosecutor’s Office is a single attorney office located in Newberry and has a support staff of one full-time victim advocate/secretary. The vacancy begins November 1, 2023. The chosen applicant will serve for the remainder of the current term, expiring in December 2024.

Job Duties: The appointed prosecutor shall be responsible to handle all legal matters required by constitution, statute, and court rule. Duties include appearing in family, district, and circuit courts. The office does not currently represent the Department of Health and Human Services in abuse and neglect cases. Luce County is home to the Newberry Correctional Facility, requiring the prosecutor’s office to review and handle criminal matters occurring inside the facility in the prosecutor’s discretion.

Requirements: Member in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan or awaiting results of the bar exam.
